1. The Shaman's Apprentice
Director: Catherine Winter TX Date: 4 May 2008 (18h00)
The Karoo's endless arid landscape stretches from one far horizon to the other. But there is more than just solitude and silence, an atmosphere of ancient mystery broods over it like some intangible spirit ceaselessly mourning the primeval past. This should come as no surprise, seeing as Karoo means 'land of thirst'. In the early mornings or late afternoons, when the sun is oblique and the air cool, the Karoo is in its most enigmatic mood: the dawns and sunsets are like vast volcanic eruptions of red, orange and gold. It is at these times that you will find Oom Johannes and his apprentice Antoinette Pienaar in the veldt.
