There is a theory that we have a human instinct to conserve nature – it’s known as biophilia. But more often than not, it is nature that conserves us. Why is this? It is a question that is puzzled over in the Healing Power of Nature Series. Each 24-minute film centres on the ways nature can heal us.
Having enjoyed tremendous success on SABC 3 in 2006 thanks to award-winning films by a number of respected and influential directors, South Africa's premiere nature/wildlife series returns for its second outing, this time promising an even more touching and elegant glimpse into the symbiotic relationship between man and nature.
This series premieres on Sunday the 4th of May at 18:00 on SABC 3 (a weekly slot), and explores unique areas of Southern Africa (and even places beyond its borders, with eight of the 13 episodes having been filmed on location in foreign territories ranging from India to Indonesia). Presented in different languages - some not even on the 11 official languages list - the films tell real African stories, exploring the age-old mystical relationship between people and nature. Virginia Witts' HIV/AIDS Drama, Remember Eliphas 2, won 5 Awards, including Best Film at the Wild Cinema International Film Festival in Windhoek, Namibia. Virginia directed the 10th film in the Healing Power of Nature Series 2: Flight to Heaven.

Liz Fish, director of two films in the Healing Power of Nature Series 2, won the prestigious Kanna Award form the ABSA KKNK for "The Best South African Short Film" in 2008 for her documentary Voelvry - episode 13 from the first the Healing Power of Nature Series.

The Shaman's Apprentice has been chosen to form part of the Official Selection for the 2008 Encounters Film Festival.
The festival will be held in Johannesburg from the 19th to 29th of June, and in Cape Town from the 3rd to the 13th of July 2008. Stay tuned for more details.

When Wendy and her sister Norma were both diagnosed with terminal cancer, they were dealt a severe blow, especially after the same deadly disease claimed the lives of the brother, and prior to that their father’s. But the greatest inspiration of all has come in an unexpectedly large form: that of an elephant. After both girls visit a game farm with domesticated elephants, they experience as inexplicable calm and positive healing effect on both their bodies and minds, and vow to write a book about it.
